Do the COVID vaccines work?

Health care workers answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccines.

Susana Morales, MD on how effective the COVID vaccines are at preventing infection and illness.

I think the number one question of course, that people want to know and that I wanted to know is, “Does it work?” And what I learned when I did my own research was that all the vaccines that have been approved are very effective.

And the most important, you know, the most important thing that I think we all want is we don’t want to end up in the hospital, we don’t want to end up on a respirator and we don’t want to die.

And all three actually of the vaccines that have been approved in this country, none of the people that volunteered for those trials were admitted to the hospital on a ventilator or died. Some of them got very mild COVID, but the rate of getting COVID was way less. And so that was impressive.
