Why do we need a vaccine for the flu?

Dr. Lisa Fitzpatrick answers questions about the flu and the flu vaccine.

Without a flu vaccine many more people would die of flu. And we know this because historically, before we had a flu vaccine, millions of people died.

The reason everyone should be vaccinated for flu is because there are people who are at high risk of being very sick from flu or even dying from flu. So even if you’re young and healthy, you may come in contact or spread the flu to someone who’s likely to even die of the flu. So this is why everyone needs to be vaccinated for flu.
